Medicare Is Very Complex and Confusing. Let me guide you, avoid costly mistakes and frustration.

I have been doing so since 2011

You will receive help with the entire process. Learning the ins and outs of Medicare by yourself can lead to potential problems such as missing important deadlines or signing up for a plan that does not include your doctors or medications. I understand just how confusing and difficult it can be without someone by your side guiding you through the entire process. I have developed a simple guided process providing you with the knowledge you need upfront to make the right decisions, both financially and medically.

I step you through the entire process, learning your specific needs. I provide essential learning about Medicare, including how it operates, your rights and responsibilities, types of Medicare plans available, as well as help finding a plan that includes your physicians and an appropriate drug plan. I also assist with meeting deadlines because being late can add additional fees or prevent you from obtaining the desired coverage. And I continue to support you even after signing up with your chosen plan.

What is an Independent Medicare Broker?

As an independent Medicare broker, I am not tied down to representing only one company and their plans.

We have been clients of the Barfield team now for some time. Recently I contacted Diana to assist us

with an issue between Vanderbilt providers and Humana that was going to impact our ability to continue care with our Vanderbilt providers. To make sure my husband and I would be able to continue care at Vanderbilt, a plan change was necessary, and it was outside the normal time period to change our plans. No matter, Diana made it happen.

After learning our needs, she thoroughly researched options and presented them to us in a professional manner while meeting my specific visual learning needs. She easily answered the questions I had about Medicare insurance and was extremely knowledgeable. Diana provided me with the information I needed to make a good decision, including steering me away from additional vision coverage when it became clear that the coverage would not be a good fit for my specific medical needs. She had my back and I appreciate her even more for demonstrating her commitment to being my advisor over selling me additional insurance.

And, Diana was so nice to deal with and a pleasure to have her come to my home. I think she’s great and recommend her highly.

    Hi Friends,

If you are looking to begin Medicare or possibly change your Medicare plan; or even need help wading through all the insurance confusion these days, look no further!

I’d like to introduce you to Diana Barfield of The Barfield Alliance.  Last fall Diana invited my husband and I to her home office to discuss our Union-based Medicare Retirement plan changes when I approached her with my confusion. We were having difficulty understanding whether this new plan that we were being directed into from my husband's union would be as good as the previous plan or a standard Medicare plan. It was a very informative evening with all the various portions of the policies explained and compared against what we had, Original Medicare as well as Medicare Advantage plans. Diana took the extra time to answer all of our questions. If you are confused, and would like someone to sit down and thoroughly answer all your Medicare-related insurance questions, please give Diana a call at (615) 881-4065.

    Blessings,

    -  Judy P.

Just wanted to share my experience with Devoted Medicare insurance.

Diana Barfield helped us learn about Devoted, a new Medicare health plan provider in the state of Tennessee for 2023.

My husband and I signed up and began with them in January 2023.

I love Devoted. I live in Murfreesboro, TN where all my doctors at the MMC Clinic are in the network, so I did not have to find different doctors. I have no co-pays for visits with my primary doctor. The perks are wonderful too. The $25.00 food allowance really helps with groceries, and the $120.00 dollar allowance every 3 months for over-the-counter merchandise at CVS is wonderful. In addition, there is a very robust dental allowance of $4000. Another benefit I recently received is a watch that detects if I have fallen. This benefit is covered entirely by Devoted including the monthly charge for the services. These are but a few of the benefits provided by Devoted.

Devoted employees quickly pick up the phone to assist you, are easy to understand when they speak and will take the time to search for whatever you need.  I would highly recommend Devoted for everyone.  Thank you Devoted as well as Diana for helping us get involved in this great plan.

  • Can you tell me more about your company?

Hugh Barfield began doing Medicare Advising in 2011 and built a large group of dedicated clients. Diana joined in 2020, starting the Barfield Alliance as a husband -and -wife team. Our mission became simply to help clients with Medicare. With our backgrounds in training and business development, as well as our experience going through the Medicare plan selection process ourselves, I realized I could help others. Hugh is no longer doing Medicare advising due to health issues.

I am determined to develop a simple guided process with the knowledge required for clients to make the decisions that are right for their needs, both medically and financially. I walk our clients through the entire process, providing appropriate information to enable you to make a solid decision on a plan that includes your physicians and an appropriate drug plan. I will help you decide whether a Medicare Advantage plan is right for you among other choices because as independent brokers we are able to provide access for you to all the types of Medicare as well as a range of quality carriers and their plans specific to your needs. Our work is not done after you have found the right plan. I will continue to offer you support after your enrollment. As your Medicare Benefit Advisor, I am focused on developing and retaining a long-term relationship with you.

Several hundred clients have come to us for the savings and ended up staying for the on-going service. Join our long list of satisfied clients today! I am sure you will be pleased to find an exceptional and all-inclusive service that is just what you have been searching for and need!

  • When should I start talking to an advisor?

A good time to reach out to me is 4 months before turning 65 so that I can direct you to

items that need to be done in preparation, including contacting Social Security, if

necessary. The entire process has timelines to keep in mind. Missing one can mean loss of an opportunity or adding significantly to the cost of your coverage.

  • What does an independent agent do?

As an independent agent, I represent numerous insurance companies that provide me access to a very broad range of plans that I use to meet specific client’s needs. Unlike agents who are employed by one company and only that company’s plans, I help clients find the best plan choices to fit their needs.

I help you learn about the ins and outs of Medicare, meet deadlines, and keep you from making costly mistakes.

As an independent agent, my services are complimentary, I am compensated by the insurance company you choose for your plan. So, it makes sense to use an independent

Medicare Advisor to assist you on the journey

  • What are Medicare Advantage plans?

Medicare Advantage plans, offered by insurance companies, are all inclusive plans required to provide the same Part A and Part B benefits as Medicare with additional benefits at more competitive pricing. These plans also provide a cap on your financial obligation for your out-of-pocket medical costs within a calendar year.

Some commonly offered additional benefits in Medicare Advantage plans include vision care with money toward glasses and contacts, dental services, hearing exams and hearing aids, over-the-counter benefits, and include prescription drug coverage within their plan.

Working with The Barfield Alliance will help you to determine whether Medicare Advantage is the best choice for you.

  • Do I need a Medicare Supplement?

You are probably wondering how a Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, plan fits into the Medicare landscape. Like Medicare Advantage plans, Supplements are provided by independent insurance businesses, not through the government.

Supplement plans work alongside Original Medicare, closing the 20% gap that Original Medicare does not pay on your claims. While Medicare Advantage plans stand alone, separate from Original Medicare.

Supplements are worth consideration if you have significant health issues already at age 65, if you want to choose your doctors and hospital without worrying about networks and do not want to spend time each fall re- evaluating your medical coverage, or want to avoid being nickeled and dimed throughout the year for co-pays, deductibles and such.

With all the changes in Original Medicare the last few years, a Supplement is a safe haven. But Supplements become a more expensive choice over time since the premium goes up every year. And there is a 6-month timeframe to sign up without needing to go through medical underwriting.

There are numerous plans available to choose and all of them follow the Medicare established parameters. For instance, a Plan G covers nearly all the claims while Plan A only covers a small type of claims. But Medicare Supplement plans are the same across all insurance companies that provide Medicare Supplements. For instance, Plan G is the same with UnitedHealthCare or Mutual of Omaha. Only the price is different. This makes it much easier to select a

    company’s plan.

As you can see, Medicare Supplements can be a confusing topic without guidance. That’s why I am here to assist you in making decisions appropriate for you.
